During the Biden administration’s war on agriculture, we went from being a food exporter to being forced to buy what we need from abroad. Biden’s disastrous policies and the work of a Democrat-controlled congress created this agriculture trade deficit, making America poorer, weaker and less healthy.
The higher cost and lower quality of our food supply is a direct result of bad laws and bad policies. It is not the fault of America’s family farmers and ranchers. They have been fighting a losing battle against overwhelming odds under this administration.
American agriculture, and the family farmers and ranchers who make it work, have generated more food for more people than the world has ever known. Since the end of WWII, life expectancy has skyrocketed – driven, in no small measure, by the ability to create the food America needs with enough left over to sell to the world.
America’s family farmers and ranchers have done more to eliminate hunger than any other factor…until Biden and Harris.
Donald Trump Will Make American Agriculture Great Again
America has long been the breadbasket of the world. With Donald Trump’s resounding victory, it will be again. What Joe Biden destroyed, President Trump will rebuild, starting with American agriculture.
At the Texas Department of Agriculture, we have:
-
Streamlined the bureaucracy and made regulatory compliance more effective, more efficient, and less costly.
-
Protected farmers and ranchers from federal regulatory overreach, and pressure to force ESG mandates on our food production.
-
Improved food nutrition with our Farm Fresh School Lunch program.
-
Expanded market opportunities for American agricultural products in over 33 countries around the world, including some of the biggest consumer markets.
-
Protected consumers by keeping goods flowing during the pandemic and other disruptions.
-
Expanded biodiversity by collecting and destroying unused agriculture chemicals, regulating forever plastics, and advocating for regenerative farming practices.
These are all parts of the solution for American agriculture:
-
Take care of the land.
-
Respect the people who farm it.
-
Allow them to produce the healthiest, most abundant food supply in history.
-
Reduce grocery prices for all Americans.
-
Open markets and feed the world.
This is President Trump’s mandate…healthy food that the average American can easily afford. It’s a critical aspect of making America healthy again, which is a critical aspect of Making America Great Again.
With President Trump’s leadership, American agriculture stands to boom once more, to the benefit of us all.
###
An eighth-generation farmer and rancher, Sid Miller is the 12th Commissioner of the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA). He has devoted his life to promoting agriculture, rural communities, and our rural heritage. He was elected statewide as the 12th Texas Agriculture Commissioner in 2014 and re-elected to his second term in office in 2018; followed by a third term in 2022, receiving almost 4.5 million votes--more votes than any candidate for Texas Agricultural Commissioner has ever received.
Their hollowing out of American agriculture has imperiled American families. We are less healthy, less secure, and under more financial strain to meet our basic needs.
The good news is that under President Trump’s leadership, that which has been lost will be restored. Bad laws and bad policies have diminished our domestic industry, but the industry itself remains strong, vibrant and vital.
The heart of American agriculture is still our people, their innovations and God’s blessing of the best agriculture lands in the world.
And now America has the best president for agriculture, as well. The team around him will help him knock down the artificial barriers to American success.
I was the first elected official in Texas to support President Trump in 2015 because I live the experience of our family farmers and ranchers every day. I have seen the impact of agriculture policy from the field to the grocery check-out and beyond.
This moment is bigger than most folks realize. I trust President Trump to make the most of it.
